PI SONG | SAVED MOMENTS |
Or, just go to a totally random moment
Two years in the making, this one hundred year long ambient music track was released to celebrate Earth Day 2022. There are about 114 years of music for you to explore here.
Canton Becker composed this music as well as the software that orchestrates these nature recordings from all over Earth. The first billion digits of pi (3.14…) are used to generate the score that determines how and when these sounds are layered together.
Because the numbers in pi never repeat, each minute of "Earth" is in fact unique. By fast forwarding to some distant moment in the song, you are virtually guaranteed experience something that nobody else – including the composer himself – has ever heard before.
HARMONIC SINGING by Shingetsu Billy White.
THE NATURE SOUNDS you hear in this work include contributions from generous and talented recordists Amani Friend and Felix Blume. Additional public domain recordings were sourced from the Yellowstone National Park Sound Library and the amazing Radio Aporee.
